Shawndra Boode Decision

July 7, 2026

On July 1, 2026 Shawndra Boode went before Judge Patton to be heard.

Big thanks to everyone who supported Shawndra at her resentencing hearing … in person at the court and on zoom.  Shawndra and the judge certainly took note of all the supporters!

Judge Patton used the recent Frederickson decision to reduce Shawndra’s first degree murder charges to second degree murder.  Therefore the special circumstances associated with first degree murder which mandate LWOP no longer apply.  He also cited PC 1385 which I think mandates judges to take into account various mitigating circumstances such as all the childhood sexual molestation and other forms of abuse that Shawndra endured.  The Judge sentenced her … to twenty years plus fifteen to life to run concurrently which means she should be eligible on the 15 to life to go to the Parole Board.

Shawndra’s lawyer/public defender, Jeff Chorney, has been a true champion for her! The social worker who developed the mitigation report that the judge found very compelling is also committed to supporting her to prepare for her parole hearing.  This level of support from the Alameda Public Defender’s office is very significant!

Stay tuned for further information.
